FAQs
Here are answers to questions I am often asked.
Why New Zealand?
We chose New Zealand because we've been here before, and we loved the country. I have close family in Auckland (two aunts, two uncles and a cousin) and we know the lifestyle will suit our family. Our children will thrive in this environment.
Where in New Zealand do you want to be?
This is a big adventure for us and we're open to living wherever the opportunity presents itself. Although I come from a big city and enjoy city living, I'm excited by the prospect of experiencing a smaller place where there is a strong sense of community and more of a work / life balance.
What does your husband do?
Gary is a graphic designer, illustrator and caricature artist, which means he is able to work remotely.
Are you able to start work immediately?
I'm working through an immigration agency and can provide a letter of support from them. Once I have a firm job offer, it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get a work visa.
New Zealand accounting systems are different to South Africa. How would you deal with that?
I have worked at Brightstar, a global company and SS Telecoms, a division of a South African listed group. This means that I have experience and insight into complying with international accounting standards and practices. In addition, I am highly adaptable and I learn new systems quickly, so I am sure I would fit into a New Zealand business with ease.
What do you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses?
Attention to detail is one of my greatest strengths, but, paradoxically, it can also be a weakness. Sometimes I'm so focused on getting the details right that I may temporarily lose sight of the big picture.
My other strengths include my problem-solving ability, adaptability and people skills.
